My Favorite Dragon
by Kathy Byers & Lydia Adams Davis

My favorite dragon to have as a pet
Is a bearded lizard I saved up to get
The girl at the pet shop suggested I learn
How to shop for his needs with the dollars I earn

The first time I saw one down at the zoo
Looking so friendly and very calm too
This lizard spat up and stuck out his tongue
I knew not to touch him, I knew not to run

So we bought a large tank with room to turn ‘round
Blocked off three sides, and set it on the ground
We named him “Tri” for his three-sided head
And served him up crickets so he’d be well fed

Uh oh…Is he showing his beard as a threat?
I’ll leave him alone now, he might be upset
He’s got rocks and logs to climb on and hide
That’s why we scattered so many inside

The rays he takes in help him digest
As an easy-care pet, he sure is the best
And because he is small, I hold him a lot
His eyes shining at me, he’s the best friend I’ve got!

My favorite dragon to have as a pet
Is “Tri” my own lizard I saved up to get
