I Am Snake
by Lydia Adams Davis & Kathy Byers

I am snake who lives in a home
Through rugs and carpets I happily roam
The people who keep me…all have feet
Attached to their legs…why not me?

Chorus:
I want legs, yes I do
So I can be just like you!
I want legs, yes I do
So I can be just like you!

So I’ll search this house…from top to bottom
Then put them on once I’ve got ‘em
I’ll search this house…from bottom to top
Until I find them…I will not stop

Chorus

Here I’ll look in the cuff of your jeans
Then in the cat box, yuck…Not clean!
Into the bathroom to have a look-see
Big drains and plumbing are not for me!

Eureka! A sneaker with laces untied
Maybe some spare legs got left…deep inside
My tongue has detected a smell so strong
If someone hid legs here…they won’t last long

Chorus

I’ll check out the tech room now…I love this
But to sit here at the desk…I’d have to have hips!
There’s a call from the tropics…Is anyone there?
I’ll look in the mailbox for a ticket somewhere

All this exploring has told me a lot
You know I get around fine…believe it or not
Besides, without legs I can curl in your lap
After all this searchin’…I’m taking a nap!

Chorus

Who needs legs? I am snake…
Who needs legs? Not me
Hmm…I am snake…Hmm…I am snake
I am snake… That’s me!
