We Study Frogs
by Lydia Adams Davis

A tadpole shipment came in
From eggs in jelly their lives begin
They hatch and swim away
Looking like a head with a tail that sways

We study frogs
Just because
We want to learn
A lot about ‘em
We want to know
How they grow
In different ways each day

Week one their hind legs appear
Week five their tail grows small
Their forelegs are here
Week ten their back legs are grown
Week fifteen they’re on the bank
Breathing air on their own

We study frogs
Just because
We want to learn
A lot about ‘em
We want to know
How they grow
In different ways each day (3Xs)
